2 family sized tipis Portugal on an ‘off the grid’ organic quinta Portugal | Tipping Tipis

Wow, I love the look of this place; just wish I could pack my bags and head there tomorrow. Tipping Tipis offer two 6 metre tipis on their 8 acre quinta in central Portugal. This brand new site opens in June 2013 and offers an ‘off the grid’ experience with its solar panels, local spring water for drinking and well water for washing.

The tipis come with a double bed with organic cotton sheets and a handmade quilt – a single and camp bed are also available. Both tipis have their own private shower and composting toilet. There is a large communal kitchen, lounge area plus pizza oven and bbq. You are welcome to help yourself to organic vegetables from the garden.

This area has so much to offer with its nature reserves, markets and river beaches. There’s mountain biking, horse riding and climbing school all in the locality. There is even a Geopark where you can discover tribolite fossils and cool off in a granite swimming pool.

Tipping Tipi’s has an interesting charging policy where a minimum donation of 35 euros a night for 7 nights or 40 euros per night for a minimum of three nights is asked for. The plan is to re-invest donations into developing this off-the-grid experience.

An Ti Glas (The Green House) is a fully restored traditional Irish farmhouse on a working organic small holding in County Clare. There is so much for your family to enjoy here.  The property is situated on the Mid Clare Way a long distance walking route so there are plenty of walks in the immediate area (maps can be provided) and forestry tracks which are ideal for cycling. If fishing is your thing then there are a number of lakes nearby for pike and trout.

Kids will love the big trampoline, swings, mini soccer pitch and plenty of trees for climbing. There is also a dog, cats and chickens on your doorstep and next door are horses and cows. Children will be fascinated by the polytunnels, reed bed and bog. Babysitting is also available. Family friendly attractions include Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Moher Hill Open Pet Farm or why not discover the Burren National Park with its unique limestone features including megalithic tombs, celtic crosses and ruined Cistercian Abbey from the 12th century.

This self catering holiday Ireland costs 450 euros in May and the cottage is available for half-term. Sleeps up to 5 people. Free range organic eggs and vegetables on site. Half day trips can be arranged walking, surfing, kayaking, dolping watching, cycling.

October half term 2012 holidays: eco-friendly safari tent holiday on a rural Spanish finca | finca las cañadas

Close to the Portuguese border in western Spain you will find Finca las Cañadas – an eco-friendly safari tent holiday. You will be welcomed by the owners to share their rural finca, a sheep farm situated between two lakes in Extremadura. Each tent is fully equipped and there is a swimming pool on site.

If you and your family enjoy the great outdoors, and your kids would love the opportunity to collect eggs from the chickens, hunt for lizards in the undergrowth and help out with the sheep then this is the holiday for you. To make your stay even more enjoyable, home baked pastries and bread for breakfast can be ordered, an organic vegetable box is supplied, plus dinner can be booked in advance.

In the surrounding area are natural swimming pools, mountain villages and castles to explore. The environment is to be respected here as all energy supplies are generated on site and the finca has its own spring water. From 500 euros per week – tent sleeps up to six. A two and a half hour drive from Madrid.
